Evil Eye

The Evil Eye is a belief that the envy elicited by the good luck of fortunate people may result in their misfortune, whether it is envy of material possessions; beauty; health or offspring. The perception of the nature of the phenomenon, its causes and possible protective measures, varies between cultures.

People therefore protect themselves by wearing an eye or simply putting it in their homes as decoration. For instance, when a baby is born you pin an evil eye in its cradle in order for the baby to be protected; when someone gives you a compliment you pinch your bum to the take the evil eye away, my grandmother even pins an eye to her bra (but that stays between you and me!).
