Our First Task of Life

Mindfulness & Self-Compassion

Goodmorning beautiful people,

I do hope that you are safe and healthy, wherever you are in the world.

I have been writing these newsletters for nearly four years now, and whether you are a newcomer or have read a lot of these, I would like to thank you for taking the time.

In the amazing book, A Life of Meaning by Professor and Jungian analyst James Hollis, he shares that “the spirit of evil is the negation of life force by fear.” He goes on to say that “only boldness can deliver us from evil, and if the risk is not taken or the choice is not made, the meaning of life is violated.”

“Our first task of life, is to keep our appointment with destiny and become a servant of life.”

“When we serve fear and anxiety, instead of serving our life’s destiny, it results in neurosis.”

”Neurosis is a conflict between the world around us and our nature. Our adapted self, develops behaviours that are ego and fear based and make us run back and forth to keep everyone happy.”

You probably know that in the end, nobody is happy. So as my own therapist beautifully says: “who are you serving when you serve fear and anxiety?”

So my wish for us all today, is that we serve ourselves, the part within that feels alive and aligned, grounded, bold and healthy. We will always belong, even if we move to the beat of our own drum.

“Our journey is our home, so we can be home anywhere, as long as we are present to our journey.”

May you be bold ,
May you be happy,
May you be free

Do let me know if you have any questions or would like to try a session in person or online

With love and deep respect,

Vanessa
